About HeapDeck

HeapDeck is an iPhone app for the engineer on call for a PostgreSQL server. It is made by Vladimir Chemeris, an independent developer.

Why it exists

Alerts arrive wherever you are. Datadog, Grafana or PagerDuty tell you that something is wrong; what you need next is the answer to two questions: which part of the server is in trouble, and what can be done about it right now. HeapDeck answers the first on one screen, Health, and puts the second one tap away: the session at the root of a lock chain, the table holding back the freeze horizon, the slot keeping WAL on disk.

That is why the app opens on Health and not on a list of tables. Browsing data and an SQL console are there too, because incidents need them, but they come second.

The rules it keeps

  • No servers of its own. The app talks to your database, your SSH bastion and, if you set one up, the AI model you chose. Credentials stay in the iOS Keychain on your iPhone.
  • Honest screens. When your role can't see something, HeapDeck says so and shows the GRANT that fixes it, instead of an empty list that looks like good news.
  • Nothing runs by accident. Every write passes the Pro check, the connection's Read-only switch, the SQL classifier and a confirmation. Destructive steps ask you to type the target's name.
  • Monitoring stays free. Pro is one purchase for the actions. No subscription, no account.
  • The site promises only what the app does. If a feature is not in the version on the App Store, it is not on this site.

The family

HeapDeck is the third app built on the same idea. CacheDeck covers Redis-compatible servers; ProbeDeck covers ClickHouse. You can find all of them on the developer's App Store page.
